    Chemical Change Demonstrations
    a) Why do different compounds react together? (magnesium and oxygen, for example)
Compounds will react because of the number of valence electrons. Magnesium has 2/8 electrons on the outer shell. Oxygen has 6/8 electrons on the outer shell. Like a puzzle, the two atoms fit together nicely. When bonded, the compound is more stable because the electrons in the outer orbital are full.
    b) What is a combustion reaction? We saw two different examples . .
    IsGummy Bear
Mg + Oxygen reaction (bright light)
In a combustion reaction the gas Oxygen is involved and released lots of energy in the chemical reaction.

A combustion reaction is an example of domino causality because once the reaction happens you can't get it back.

How was this a chemical change or domino causality?
TheChemical change because new elements are formed in the reaction. It would be difficult to reverse the reaction.

    temperature of
    ...
Was this an endothermic or exothermic?
    f)
    exothermic reaction?
the temperature increased as the flask felt much warmer. An increase of temperature is EXOTHERMIC. Think Exo or Exit. The energy is being released and making the water warmer.
    f)
    What are
    ...
    the demos?
    g) What is a catalyst? Which demonstration shows a catalyst at work?
A catalyst is a substance that makes a reaction faster. We saw it in the ninja gas.
What is an Ion? An Isotope?
An ion is where you gain

    bubbling (a gas)
    heat
or lose an electron. An Isotope is where you gain or loss a nuetron

    1. Who created the Periodic Table and how is it organized?
    ...
    atomic number. or charles darwin
    2. How is an element different than a compound? give examples.
elements make up compounds, as atoms make up molecules. A compound is a a combination of two or more elements

Yes the cheese was good to my oppinion the cheese was made from many mixtures tht came together and formed a big gigantic blob.

This graph above shows the change of state of water. The first plateau is when ice turns to water. The second plateau is when water turns to gas. The water never moves higher than 100 C because at that temperature (the boiling point) it changes its state to a gas.

The graph above shows the Ultimate Fizz Lab. In this graph, you can see the maximum amount of reaction (judging from the change in temperature) is clearly at 10 mL . Both the group and the class average have a high reading for 10 mL of baking soda. The ideal ratio between vinegar to baking soda is 3:1. There are 30 mL of vinegar compared to the 10 mL of baking soda.
Calcium Chloride + Baking Soda MAKING CHALK REACTION
Does Temperature affect the reaction rate for the chemical reaction?
The answer is clearly YES, observe the results below:
{temp_chart.png} {chart_3.png} {time_chart.png} Below is the Graph comparing the boiling point of regular water, salt water, and really salty waterThere is a clear difference! Check it out {chart_1_(1).png} tArray The graph Below shows that when you mix a bag of reactants, the chemical reaction increases in size. The more shakes to the bag the wider the diameter of the sandwich bag becomes after filling up with carbon dioxide gas. The shaking helps to redistribute the reactants and increases the surface area. As a result there is more contact points for the reaction to take place between the two reactive compounds. {MixingBag.png} {https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/XMBDPFpadi3TGKVAQFSlb7Z-whO_uf6Sr0OCOSTVDn1KU2K7JY-b1TrZL_ygWWrv8q_FsjLNRbNuTLCzpipeWZbT3J8w2-OSlpBM9Ji9781ZaQu2rJP-chJrJclB7Abr} In this lab, the solubility of salt was tested at different temperatures. Solubility is the amount of water that can be held in the solution. As the temperature increased, the molecules of water began to spread out and move faster. This warming of water allows more space between the molecules. The more space between the molecules allows more salt to fit in the water. TEMPERATURE clearly has an effect on the solubility of water.:
